Doug Albers Sr. is a philanthropist and longtime business leader based in the Kansas City area. With deep ties to his community, Doug is a staunch advocate for service and community leadership.

Doug is highly active in his numerous alumni networks, participating in events and even funding scholarships. For Doug Albers, service is often rooted in faith. He is enthusiastic about any opportunity to give back to his community and improve the lives of those around him. In his professional role with GreatLifeKC, the GreatLife Cares Foundation enriches the lives of families and individuals through golf, fitness and healthy lifestyles.

Doug Albers Sr. grew up in Kansas City, where he attended Rockhurst High School. Doug’s upbringing instilled in him a deep sense of service, community, and faith, all of which continue to impact his life today. Doug has instilled these values in his children throughout their lives. After completing high school, Doug Albers earned a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University. He went on to complete his studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 1977.

Prior to completing his studies, Doug’s entrepreneurial spirit came to the forefront. The year prior to graduating with his pharmacy degree, Doug Albers established his own pharmacy. For the next 32 years, Doug led its growth, focusing on excellence in service and professionalism. In 2008, he elected to sell his business to two employees. The business has expanded and is still operating as Albers Pharmacy today. He then joined a friend and pharmacy school classmate at MedTrak Services, a company in which he had originally invested to get it off the ground. As the Executive Vice President of Trade Relations, Doug managed contracting with all vendor partners. These included massive retailers like Walmart, Walgreens, Target, and CVS, as well as thousands of independent pharmacies all over the country. An investment group acquired MedTrak in 2014, at which point Doug Albers retired from his role. Doug is still active in the sector as an investor partner with MRx Ventures. He also is a partner in Tria Health, which focuses on resolving the high costs and health risks associated with the mismanagement of medication.

Doug Albers Sr. is a proud member of the leadership team at GreatLifeKC, which owns, operates, and/or manages 14 different golf courses around the Kansas City area and across the Missouri and Kansas state lines.

Doug and his team are bringing an innovative new approach to managing these properties, emphasizing health, fitness, upgraded facilities, and year-round programs for members. Doug personally project manages all course improvements, as well as conducts audits quarterly to ensure the firm’s high standard of excellence is met.

Doug Albers Sr. has heavily invested his time throughout life in helping and giving to others. He has done service-orientated work in El Salvador, and has worked with organizations such as Mercy Beyond Borders and Cristo Rey. In addition, Doug has assisted groups such as Susan G. Komen, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, Water.org, Folds of Honor, American Diabetes Association and the Christian Okoye Foundation. He has been very active supporting numerous golf, health care, catholic and community related foundations or organizations for many years. Doug set up a generous yearly scholarship at his alma mater, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy, which assist students with financial help as they obtain pharmacy related degrees.
